The importance of agile tech in a rapidly evolving market
Compliable’s licensing platform enables sportsbooks and iGaming businesses to obtain employee, entity, vendor and other businesses licenses across multiple states in the US, ensuring speed to market which is crucial as regulation in the region evolves. We caught up with Chief Regulatory Officer, Justin Stempeck, on how Compliable stays agile, adapting its solution to support an industry with increasing regulatory demands.
How has the ever-changing gambling regulation in the US had an impact on your offering since you launched three years ago?
The nature of the industry we are in forces us to constantly think ahead to be prepared for any changes to existing regulation or new markets opening up. Since we launched our solution, we have built on it to ensure we can offer our clients the support they need, and this has been driven by how the sector has developed in the US over the last few years. Our product offering now includes multiple modules to support any type of license that gambling companies need to enter regulated US states. The regulatory landscape is complex, but our platform removes a big hurdle for the industry, helping companies quickly apply and manage their key, employee, vendor, and entity licenses across many states.
As a tech start-up, we are always looking at ways to strengthen our platform and ensure we stay ahead of our competition. We work closely with our clients and partners to understand their requirements and incorporate this into our product development, and we also have a close dialogue with regulators. We have repeatedly worked with customers to understand their licensing workflow and customize our product to best fit their existing methods to offer them the most value.
What advantages does Compliable’s platform have over its main competitors in the market?
What sets our solution apart the most is the degree of completeness that it offers as it finalises applications fully, entering all data and documentation where it needs to be. The simplicity of using our platform is a huge benefit to anyone who goes through what is often a complicated application process.
The user journey is therefore important, and offering a streamlined and simple process as people navigate through the platform is something we have worked hard on. We have extensive FAQs and a live chat available, further improving the user experience and the support we can offer. The US is a market we know extremely well and as experts in licensing and compliance, we want to offer more than just a tech solution.
Our job is never done at Compliable as we are always challenging ourselves to do more. With the modern tech our solution is built on, we have the possibility to continue to innovate compared with other legacy products on the market.
What role has reg tech played in the expansion of the US gambling markets and could more be done in this space?
It has been tremendously important for many companies who are smaller as they might not have the resources to handle it themselves. While hiring outside counsel to handle licensing applications has long been the norm for many companies, we instead empower the company itself to effectively complete the work in a time/cost efficient and thorough manner.
The reg tech space has evolved quickly over the years and there are so many areas where innovation can truly help gambling companies focus on what matters most to grow their business. Employee and entity licensing are an often-forgotten piece of the equation where using our solution can really make a difference. Our platform makes licensing much more approachable for people and we will continue to build out the functionality to ensure the license management process is as efficient and intuitive as possible.

MGCB Showcases National Leadership on Illegal Gaming Enforcement at 2025 NAGRA Conference
Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) Criminal Investigations Section Manager John Lessnau recently represented the agency at the 2025 North American Gaming Regulators Association (NAGRA) Annual Training and Education Conference, held June 2-5 in Nashville, Tennessee.
Lessnau presented a featured session titled “Case Study: Tackling the Illegal/Offshore Gaming Market” and facilitated a discussion on how Michigan is setting the standard nationwide in combatting illegal and unregulated gaming operations. His presentation outlined Michigan’s strategic enforcement model and collaborative approach to removing illegal gambling from the state and deterring bad actors from targeting Michigan consumers.
“Michigan is at the forefront of the national conversation on illegal gambling, and we were proud to share how our efforts are making a real impact. We’re leveraging every tool available—from anonymous tip lines and interagency partnerships to direct enforcement and public awareness—to crack down on illegal gaming operations that threaten consumer protection and undermine legal businesses,” MGCB Criminal Investigations Section Manager John Lessnau said.
To date, the MGCB has issued nearly 100 cease-and-desist letters to unauthorized gambling operators—including high-profile offshore websites—and continues to pursue new cases with more enforcement actions expected in the months ahead. These efforts underscore the agency’s commitment to upholding integrity in Michigan’s legal, regulated gaming market.
The MGCB’s aggressive stance on illegal and offshore gambling has drawn national recognition and strengthened its partnerships with regulatory peers across the US.
As part of the NAGRA conference, MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams was honored with the 2025 Excellence in Gaming – Individual Award, recognizing his leadership in expanding responsible gaming outreach and fortifying criminal enforcement efforts. The award reflects the continued success of the MGCB under Williams’ direction and the agency’s role as a model for effective, transparent regulation.
Wyoming lawmakers have proposed to double the sports betting tax rate in the state. That would take it to 20% from 10%.
Since sportsbooks launched in September 2021, the state has collected $3.8 million in taxes on $69 million in sports betting revenue.
The committee also proposed increasing taxes on “skill-based amusement games” to 25% from 20% and the tax on historic horse racing to 2.5% from 1.5%.
Committee Chair Tara Nethercott led the proposals. Nethercott said the state has been “generous to players in this space.”
She also said the state has offered “modest regulation with little oversight.” Nethercott wants to see oversight and revenues that match the industry.
Opponents of the measure said the hikes would harm the solid growth the state’s gambling industry has seen.

The certification is based on ACDV (Virtual Racing and Sports Betting) standards, published by Coljuegos, Colombia’s national gambling authority, at the end of last year (2024) as part of a new regulatory framework for Virtual Sports in the Retail sector, outlined in Resolution No. 20241200028984.
With this updated certification now in force, GoldenRace proudly leads the way, allowing betting shops across Colombia to legally continue offering its award-winning Virtual Sports portfolio – including bestsellers like Virtual Football, Horse Racing, and Greyhound Racing – fully compliant with the latest national requirements.
“This process involved extensive testing at a prestigious, internationally accredited laboratory,” explained Julio César Duque, LatAm Director at GoldenRace. “For us, it’s a clear confirmation of the strength of our portfolio and how well our solutions perform in Colombia.”
With the ACDV certification now active, the company is expanding its market-leading Virtual Sports content to Retail, giving local operators more.
